Verizon today posted its financial results from the quarter gone by, recording 3.9 million iPhone activations.
Verizon today reported its financial results from the third quarter and posted 7.6 million in cumulative smartphone activations. Of those activations, 3.9 million were from the iPhone. All told, the iPhone accounted for nearly 55% of all of Verizon’s third-quarter smartphone activations.
During the same quarter a year ago, Verizon activated 3.1 million iPhones from a total pool of 6.8 million smartphone activations, meaning that the iPhone accounted for 45% of all of Verizon’s smartphone activations.
So if we do some basic math, it’s clear that iPhone growth on Verizon is growing much faster than overall smartphone growth. Quarter-over-quarter, iPhone activations increased by a solid 25% while Verizon’s overall smartphone growth increased by just 11.7%.
As for overall earnings performance, Verizon posted EPS of 56 cents
As for other carriers, both AT&T and Sprint are poised to release their earnings for the quarter gone by next week. Apple, meanwhile, will post its quarterly results on Monday, October 28, and that’s where the fun begins.
Apple, of course, set an iPhone launch record with its iPhone 5s and 5c combo, selling 9 million units in just three days. Even now, a few weeks removed from launch, iPhone 5s units remain in short supply.
