It’s somewhat fitting, really. Late last week, just one day before a jury found Samsung guilty of infringing upon Apple’s patents, Samsung announced a new health-focused event slated to take place on May 28. In scheduling that is likely anything but coincidental, the planned event will take place just days before Apple’s annual Worldwide Developer’s Conference (WWDC) kicks off on June 2.
As the rumors surrounding a health-oriented Apple iWatch continue to mount, Samsung has seemingly attempted to preempt Apple’s foray into the space by implementing some health-based functionality into its own products. The recently released Samsung Fit smartwatch, for example, comes with a few exercise modes and includes the ability for users to count their steps, monitor their sleep, and check their heart rate. That notwithstanding, the device has received negative reviews from seemingly every outlet that’s put it through testing. The new Galaxy S5 also comes with some interesting health-oriented features, though those too are reportedly rough around the edges.
