It's only been about two weeks since Apple unveiled its brand new lineup of svelte MacBook Airs, yet early adopters are already experiencing sporadic video abnormalities and kernel panics on both the 11.6 and 13.3-inch models. Thankfully, Apple is aware of the problem and plans to address it in an upcoming software update.
It’s only been about two weeks since Apple unveiled its brand new lineup of svelte MacBook Airs, yet early adopters are already experiencing sporadic video abnormalities and kernel panics on both the 11.6 and 13.3-inch models. Now it sometimes takes Apple years to admit that a certain product exhibits widespread and problematic behavior, but luckily Apple seems to be on the ball with this particular issue. Boy Genius Report was impressively able to attain an internal Apple support document indicating that Apple is not only aware of the issue, but is planning to address and hopefully fix it with an upcoming software update.
According to the leaked support documents (pictured below) the specific issues identified by Apple include “horizontal flickering” and “fading dark to light colors”. There’s no timetable yet for an impending software update, and in the meantime, Apple is instructing support staff to have users force a display power cycle by closing their computer for 10 seconds and putting it to sleep, and subsequently opening it back up in the hopes that it might alleviate the issue.
