A majority of IT organizations would prefer to have optimization integrated into their core network equipment
An overwhelming majority of IT organizations Nemertes benchmarked would either prefer to have optimization integrated into their core network equipment, rather than requiring a separate layer of appliances, or have no preference. The main benefits they expect from such an arrangement would be reducing the complexity of their network racks, and preferably also reducing the number of vendors they deal with. The risks come from putting all your eggs in one basket, or so say the folks who prefer separate layers. Although many said they might reconsider a few years down the line, for now they say optimization is so much less mature than core switching and routing that they don’t want to marry the two yet. And of course, even among the majority who would rather see an integrated solution, most have not deployed one.
