Service creation in the control and data path, describe your take!
How many times have we’ve faced a situation where a networking platform (such as a router, switch, or an appliance) does not inherently provide all the services that we need to be able to successfully deploy it in a given environment. There can be several types of those requirements, let me break it down further for clarity: Approaches: a)Open API interface into a networking device, that provides way to add control plane functionality (say, for network monitoring, flexibility of configuration, better collaboration with other network or non-network devices etc). Cisco’s AXP and ISR G2 ISM/SME are good example of similar (not exact) environments. b)Open API interface into a networking device, that provides a way to add data plane functionality (say, you can modify the FIB directly to make forwarding decisions, or a custom way to manipulate packets) c)Virtualized infrastructure (say virtualized routers running in a VM) Please share your thoughts, and i’m looking for you to contribute here on some of the key aspects here such as: Looking forward to all your comments, questions.
