It turns out a bug in Internet Explorer was the exploit that caused the current Google-China blowup, McAfee says.
A Microsoft software vulnerability is being implicated in the cyberattacks that triggered Google’s recent high-profile comments about possibly pulling out of China altogether.
McAfee is saying that hackers used a zero-day bug in Internet Explorer to target Google, Adobe and other companies. Previously, rigged PDFs were thought to be the vector.
Google’s reaction has rippled throughout the business world, opening the door for a full discussion on international corporate espionage, as Ellen Messmer writes.
Microsoft is expected to release more information about the vulnerability soon.
