I actually a link to LotusLive on Skype’s site while looking at international rates. Funny, I don’t remember where the link was.
Anyhow, apparently IBM has decided to throw its hat into the growing number of collaboration focused cloud services. Odd, I didn’t hear about this when it was announced a couple weeks ago. Anyhow, I do admit it’s kinda of out of the blue. After all, when you think IBM, old very school comes to mind as well as, dinosaur, must migrate off of Notes, why are there so many applications, no… no… no…

The point I’m trying to make is that this is almost completely out of the blue (well there was a beta). Apparently, IBM has been quietly sitting on the sidelines, studying what Google and Microsoft were up to. Hmmm… even more interesting are the partnerships IBM put into place before coming out of the gate:
- Salesforce (hey weren’t they already working with Google)
- Skype
But, what has me more intrigued is this statement:
“LotusLive is built using open Web-based standards and an open business model allowing it to easily integrate with third party applications.”
Maybe, just maybe this translates into easy integration with the masses… can it be? If it is, then IBM may have found a way to level the playing field. We shall see.
