CUCM 7.0 e.164 + Sign Support

The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) creates many voice standards which include the H.323 protocol, audio and video codecs, and the e.164 global phone number standard. The e.164 standard includes support for the + sign that is typically used in International dial plans, but not very often in North American Numbering Plans (NANP) implementations. Microsoft’s Office Communications Server 2007 uses the + symbol for all calls to or from Cisco Unified Communications Manager. Cisco Unified Communications Manager 7.x has native support for the e.164 + sign to support integrations with platforms that use the sign. Earlier versions of CUCM were able to interoperate with these networks using workarounds involving the use of calling and called party transformation masks in CUCM call routing. The Cisco IP phones do not support the + sign for DTMF keypad dialing, but support the + sign in call history lists (missed, received, and placed calls). The + sign can be incorporated into the following configuration elements in CUCM 7.x: • Route Pattern • Calling Party Transformation Pattern • Called Party Transformation Pattern • Directory Number CUCM 6.0 introduced incoming calling party settings which allow the CUCM administrator to change the incoming caller ID representation based on the incoming ISDN type of network (TON) information element (IE). This configuration item allows call history lists (missed and received calls) to work without using the edit dial softkey to prefix the access code to route an outgoing call. The incoming calling party settings are configurable service parameters under the Call Manager service. This item can only be seen after the advanced icon is clicked. The + sign is a configurable “incoming calling party setting” beginning with CUCM 7.0. The calling party representation can be different the following types of networks: • National • International • Unknown • Subscriber The following International numbering plan example configuration could be used for a gateway in Reading, England (UK).
