Billy Crystal and CTIA Wireless show: Match made in Hell?

While I won’t be making the trek to Vegas next week to attend the CTIA Wireless event, Billy Crystal will. The comedian/actor is headlining the CTIA Wireless Gala.

Now I don’t have anything in particular against Crystal (Well, OK, I can’t stand his omnipresent Yankees cap). But a quick rundown of his past roles does make you wonder if this is really the best guy to be showcasing at a wireless phone industry event.

* He voiced “Mike Car” in Pixar’s 2006 Cars. We all know the stats on making cell phone calls while driving.

* Crystal played Marty the Mime in This is Spinal Tap. Mimes and cell phones? Say no more.

* In When Harry Met Sally apparently the phone conversations between the two were constant source of anguish and heartbreak from what I’ve read (mercifully, seeing this movie was not a requirement for me to get married during the courting years). Wikipedia describes scenes where Harry listens to Sally crying over the phone and another where the two are shown in a split screen absorbed in their own worlds.

* My recall on 1991’s City Slickers is fuzzy at best, but wasn’t the plot in part to get away from it all, including phones?

* Mr. Saturday Night will be performing on a Thursday night.

I rest my case. Go Sox.
