Microsoft to give away $15K in prizes for Azure developer contest

Microsoft has announced a “CloudApp” contest that will award $15,000 in total cash prizes to folks who build the “coolest” cloud apps running on Windows Azure.  Deadline for submissions is June 18.  The contest will ask for submissions in both .NET and PHP applications. and be judged by RedMonk analyst Michael Cote and Giga OM blogger, Om Malik . The developer community will be asked to weigh in and vote on a winner too. 

Prizes are:

  • One .NET App Category (U.S. Only) Grand Prize winner: $5,000 VISA gift card
  • One PHP App Category (U.S. Only) Grand Prize winner: $5,000 VISA gift card
  • One U.S. Community winner: $2,500 VISA gift card
  • One International Community winner: $2,500 VISA gift card

In addition, the winner will be featured on www.azure.com at major Microsoft events, on Microsoft’s video site, Channel 9, and featured at Giga OM’s show, Structure 09, on June 25 in San Francisco.
