WAN optimization services are based on gear from Juniper
Global Crossing is adding WAN optimization capabilities, based on gear from Juniper Networks, to its portfolio of managed network services.
There’s a new player to consider if you’re in need of some help prioritizing and accelerating application delivery over the WAN. Global Crossing this week announced that it’s adding WAN optimization capabilities, based on gear from Juniper Networks, to its portfolio of managed network services.
Global Crossing’s existing managed network services include design and engineering, equipment procurement, installation, operations management, monitoring and lifecycle management. WAN optimization can be used in tandem with its managed services, Global Crossing says, to accelerate applications between corporate locations and help companies get the most out of their available bandwidth.
Similar managed WAN optimization services are available from a number of IP service providers, including AT&T, Verizon Business, Orange Business Services, BT Global Services and Tata Communications.
Global Crossing is using Juniper’s WXC Series application acceleration platforms for WAN Optimization.
WAN optimization is important for multinational enterprises that need to connect locations where bandwidth is costly, and offering it as a service gives enterprises an option to shift capital costs and equipment training to their service provider, notes Brian Washburn, a research director covering network services for analyst firm Current Analysis.
“Managed WAN optimization services have been introduced over the past several years as a way for enterprises to make the most of tail circuits in their business locations where bandwidth is precious – usually both expensive and requiring long lead times to procure. By adding its managed WAN optimization service to its list of managed network services, Global Crossing gives enterprise customers a way to serve those hard-to-reach locations more efficiently, keeping network performance higher while keeping down costs,” Washburn wrote in a research brief published this week.
Global Crossing also announced that its managed IP services will now support Juniper’s routing equipment, including the J Series services routers, M Series multiservice edge routers, and SRX Series services gateways.
“Global Crossing’s support for Juniper M Series and J Series routers, as well as for SRX secure gateways, also lets the carrier give its enterprise managed network services customers more options beyond the standard array of Cisco enterprise router CPE,” Washburn wrote.
