* The top security projects taking current security professionals’ time

When researchers at International Data Corp. interviewed more than 4000 security professionals worldwide earlier this year, they compiled a list of the top seven projects in which corporate information security teams are currently engaged.

The study — sponsored by the International Information Systems Certification Consortium — also outlined that the number of security professionals taking on these projects will increase by roughly 20% between now and 2010 to more than 2.05 million. (Check out a slide show detailing more the study’s findings)

The IDC findings show that the top security projects taking current — and likely future — security professionals’ time are:

* Biometrics

* Wireless security

* Intrusion prevention

* Identity access and management

* Storage security

* Security event or information management

* Forensics
