Q&A: Cisco’s Volpi muses on aging 7600 router’s increasing edginess
Cisco has a number of significant extensions to its venerable 7600 Ethernet edge router on tap next week at ITU. Among the more important is Broadband Remote Access Server (B-RAS), making the six-year-old workhorse Cisco’s strategic – for now – aggregation platform for video. Cisco Senior Vice President Mike Volpi shared his thoughts on the ripened router, its ever-increasing roles and its competition. Click here for the full interview.
Companies unprepared to comply with new electronic discovery rules
Organizations are woefully unprepared to comply with amendments to the U.S. court system’s Federal Rules of Civil Procedure that call for businesses to retain and be able to produce electronic records, recent studies show. The new rules were approved by the U.S. Supreme Court in April and take effect today. Click here for more.
Vista presents one of myriad decisions IT customers face
The hard part is over: Microsoft officially rolled out its Vista client operating system today, now it must convince users, who have more desktop options now with Linux and Apple OS X, that the operating system is the way to go. And Vista, which has been in development for five years, isn’t the only decision on the table for corporate IT as Microsoft also shipped Office 2007 and announced a faux-launch of Exchange 2007, which is slated to be generally available in early December. McAfee offers ISS customers a special switch program
McAfee Thursday made a special pitch to customers of IBM’s Internet Security Systems division, offering them what McAfee says is up to $40,000 in incentives to switch to McAfee security products. Click here for more.
