Sasken Communication Technologies has agreed to acquire Finnish wireless design company Botnia Hightech Oy and two subsidiaries in a bid to position itself as an end-to-end mobile handset design services company, the Indian software services company said Wednesday
The value of the all-cash deal is €35.5 million ($45 million).
Sasken, which has Intel and Nortel as investors, is a provider of software and support services for the communications industry. Its customers include service providers, semiconductor makers and equipment manufacturers.
The acquisition of Botnia brings to Sasken hardware design capabilities in the areas of radio frequency (RF), baseband, antenna design and mechanical design, Prabhas Kumar, COO of Sasken, told reporters Wednesday in Bangalore.
Botnia also offers customers testing services, which Sasken will now offer to its customers.
With revenue of €17.7 million in the fiscal year ended April 30, Botnia has about 11 customers to whom Sasken will now be able to sell its other services, Kumar said. After the acquisition, Sasken will also have a design center in Kaustinen, Finland, which is close to many European wireless equipment makers, Kumar said.
Botnia had 230 employees as of April 30. After the acquisition is complete, the company will operate as a Sasken subsidiary in Finland.
Sasken of Bangalore expects the deal to be closed by September.
