* Coyote Point Equalizer E550 features application-layer content switching
Gartner’s recent estimation that the application acceleration market hit more than $1 billion in 2005 seems to be on point as more vendors plan to introduce products designed to streamline application delivery.
Coyote Point Systems intends to keep the activity in the application acceleration market at its peak with a new appliance set to debut at this year’s Interop Las Vegas. The company will unveil its Equalizer E550 at the show, and says the traffic management system offers enterprise network managers an integrated set of Web application delivery features in a 16-port Gigabit switch configuration. With companies such as Cisco, F5 Networks, Foundry and Radware as competition, Coyote Point executives say they plan to load their appliances with features critical to today’s network managers.
“The industry may never get all the features customers want into a single box, but now we have a lot of specialized features that were once separate in this one appliance,” says Bill Kish, CEO of Coyote Point. “This appliance is designed for very high throughput applications and to support HTTP and SSL acceleration capabilities.”
The appliances can be configured in either a dual-sided or single instance scenario, depending on what features a customer would like to tap and depending on the network configuration. For instance, the Equalizer E550 can be installed in a data center for companies that remotely manage their systems or on either end of a WAN link to take advantage of optimization features.
Equalizer E550 appliances include a range of features such as application-layer content switching and built-in flash memory. The company also says the appliances can support up to 150,000 connections per second and 8,000,000 concurrent connections with wire-speed throughput. Coyote Point also included “advanced server health checks, predictive server failure detection and Web-based management including graphical reports.”
Expected to be available this summer, Coyote Point’s Equalizer E550 will be priced starting at $13,500.
