* Fluke Networks adds new capabilities to its OptiView suite of WAN analyzers
Fluke Networks last week added new capabilities to its OptiView suite of WAN analyzers that the company says will help IT managers align WAN data with business services and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements such as Sarbanes-Oxley.
The company expanded its OptiView T1/E1, DS3/E3 and OC3/OC12 WAN Analyzers with new features that allow users to organize protocol ports into customized groups that relate to business services. The OptiVew WAN Analyzers have also been upgraded to include security capabilities such as administrator-defined account authorization and control. According to Fluke Networks, user-level accounts can be assigned specific permissions or access limits, such as only viewing the headers of each packet. Also now “security events such as packet capture or capture file download can be sent to a syslog server for accounting,” the company explains.
Another new feature, dubbed Host Activity, lets IT managers focus on specific hosts or servers to see what applications have been exchanging packets across the network. http://www.networkworld.com/newsletters/accel/2005/0214netop1.html?rl With this feature, the company says, network administrators can verify the legitimacy of high-bandwidth traffic traversing the net. The feature can also help spot unusual security events such as the spread of a virus, denial of service attacks, or unauthorized data transfers. With this information, Fluke Networks says IT managers can “remove unauthorized use on a WAN link and can reduce the need for costly WAN upgrades.”
