But they often proclaim that they can see into the future, that the market for virtual Gigabit QoS application firewall platforms will reach $1 billion by 2008 – and yes, I just made that up. Maybe I could do this analyst thing. The problem today is that people remember when you make outrageous predictions, ever since the Internet bust dashed so many false hopes. Salary survey shows defense and government catching up

The good news is that if you work in IT for the government or defense sectors – or if you live in Atlanta – your salary probably went up. The bad news is that in almost every other case, IT salaries are down.

Qwest, Verizon eyeing MCI

According to reports, Qwest and Verizon are in talks with MCI regarding a possible merger. This news is on the heels of SBC’s announcement on Monday to acquire AT&T for about $16 billion.
