CTIA Wireless 2005: From bling bling to ring ring

Carriers are probably salivating at the thought having rap celeb P. Diddy as their VP of cellular operations. The musician opened CTIA Wireless 2005 this week in New Orleans by telling the gathering of wireless industry execs that: “It’s all about cell phones…cell phones, cell phones, cell phones. I don’t own spectrum, I don’t have network infrastructure, I don’t make customer service calls, but I do have subscribers…tens of millions of them.” It’s no secret that carriers aim their cell phones and services at the lucrative 18-34 year-old market and Sean Combs is the guy who knows what buttons to press to get that market excited. As the rap master once said: “It’s all about the Benjamins, baby.”

Nortel stretches CDMA, 03/15/05
