* Zeus Technology makes pact with Sun

Zeus Technology, a U.K. maker of traffic management software, last week inked a deal with Sun to distribute Zeus technology on Sun servers.

Zeus Extensible Traffic Manager (ZXTM), which until now was sold stand-alone, will now be available on Sun Fire v20z servers sold through Sun’s reseller program. For this specific release, ZXTM will arrive fully configured and optimized to run on Sun Solaris 10 with dual 64-bit AMD Opteron processors. The iForce ZXTM appliance will be available through Sun’s reseller channel.

“We focus on intelligent traffic management and helping customers create a highly available application infrastructure that is resilient to compound failures,” says Steve Palmer, vice president of marketing at Zeus. “Being able to make our software available on an optimized appliance will help customers get the product up and running more quickly.”

ZXTM typically runs on any off-the-shelf server in any flavor of Unix or Linux and sits in front of a customer’s Web and application servers to ensure traffic can be optimized. Palmer says the product competes with those of FineGround Networks, Redline Networks, NetScaler and F5 Networks. He says the software combines traffic management with server load balancing and SSL offloading.

According to Palmer, ZXTM in one software offering can provide multiple capabilities available from other vendors in one-off appliances, such as a load balancer, SSL offload device or application accelerator.

Pricing for the iForce ZXTM appliance starts at just under $16,000.
