* CareerBuilder's Q2 2005 Job Forecast
Online job site CareerBuilder.com is forecasting an impressive uptick in hiring for the second quarter. The job forecast survey found that 69% of hiring managers plan to increase their staffs in the second quarter, as compared to 45% who said they would add people in the first quarter.
“Following 21 consecutive months of job creation and increased investment in business operations, hiring managers are confident that the second quarter will bring strong employment gains,” says Matt Ferguson, CEO of CareerBuilder.com. Conducted in late February and early March, the Q2 2005 Job Forecast is based on responses from 1,700 workers, including more than 600 hiring mangers primarily working in service industries.
Only 7% of respondents plan to decrease staff in the second quarter, while 23% expect no change. Of the group that anticipates hiring, 43% say they will hire between 1 and 10 workers. Another 24% will recruit between 11 and 50 employees; 11% will add between 51 and 100 workers; and 11% will recruit more than 100 employees (does not add up to 100, guessing they left out “don’t know”).
The top reason cited for adding staff is to expand operations. To quickly augment their current talent, 57% of hiring managers will be turning to temporary help. Those managers who intend to hire next quarter plan to bring workers on quickly. Of that group, 66% report filling open positions within one month, while a speedy 32% take less than two weeks.
Leading areas being targeted for growth include healthcare, sales, retail, accounting/finance and information technology. Of managers who expect to hire, 30% plan to seek candidates for technical and professional positions, while 10% will seek managers, directors, team leaders and senior executives.
