* Peribit introduces appliance for WAN optimization
Peribit this week will roll out an appliance as a low-cost option for optimizing WAN traffic between corporate data centers and branch locations.
The SR-15 Sequence Reducer carries a price tag under $2,000 and is intended to improve performance to branch offices and remote sites. The SR-15 appliance works with Peribit’s PeriScope Central Management System (CMS) Version 5.0, which has been upgraded with a portal feature that lets network administrators customize user interfaces, generate reports and view statistics, rather than having to navigate through a lot of pages or applications.
“The SR-15 will eliminate the need for companies to set up servers and pay to maintain them at remote locations,” says Mike Banic, vice president of corporate marketing at Peribit. “It’s a low-cost appliance that requires little maintenance.”
Banic explains that customers can configure SR-15s at, say, corporate data center locations, and ship the appliances to remote locations. Staff at the remote location would then need to plug the appliance into the network, typically between a core LAN switch and a WAN router, and the appliance would power up, reboot itself and start monitoring as it was configured by IT staff at headquarters.
PeriScope CMS 5 is installed on a dedicated server, and customers can use it to manage up to 2,000 Peribit SR or Sequence Mirror (SM) appliances. Peribit features two lines of appliances, the SR and the SM, and CMS 5 can manage any combination of the two. The software also lets customers create up to 50 administrators per license of the software.
The software, which costs about $5,000 for a 10-user license, is available now, and the SR-15 appliance will ship in November.
