* Network World's New Data Center Technology Tour
endif; ?>Next month, I’ll be heading out on the road with our New Data Center Technology Tour. Co-hosting the event with me will be Johna Till Johnson, president and chief research officer at Nemertes Research. As I sift through all the presentations for the event, one thing is clear: it’s a must-see for e-commerce managers and other folks engaged in Web business.
The data center has become the epicenter of all things mission-critical. It’s a gathering place for servers, storage and other elements that help protect and manage an organization’s data.
Joining us on the tour will be Cisco, Concord, EMC, Force10, Foundry, Inkra, Nauticus and NetScaler. Each has a stake in the success of the data center, helping to consolidate, virtualize and automate network resources.
We’ll be digging into each of these areas, including how to consolidate your security and your infrastructure without breaking the bank. We’ll also look at the challenges in securing browser-based network access.
And then there are the piping issues. Is 10G Ethernet going hit its stride in the data center? Will InfiniBand come to life here, providing an alternative fabric for core infrastructure?
What of grid computing? Will that be the buzzword of the future for data centers? Will applications be able to grab whatever resources they need whenever they need them to churn data?
You’ll also hear about the latest in load balancing and how to off-load some heavy-lifting to emerging devices. You can also use virtualization to help balance traffic loads between network resources.
Johna and I will also be sharing stories from data center pioneers with you. Johna will use recent research she’s done to show you the successes and pitfalls occurring within large data centers. And I’ll be heading out into the audience to let your peers share their experiences with you.
