* Freshwater's SiteScope Web services management
Web services are still a hot topic even if they haven’t turned out to be the cash cow we hoped. It seems that the real focus of Web services is much more oriented towards internal deployment and therefore more strategic than we had suspected.
But whatever you’re going to do with Web services, management is crucial if you expect a strategic vision to pay off. Of course, management of Web services is not a trivial matter, indeed it is complex and pretty much new territory.
According to Freshwater Software (see links below), “The full potential of Web Services has been slow to materialize and companies have been wary of adoption, largely because of the lack of an effective way to monitor their performance.”
You will not be surprised that Freshwater has a solution. It is called SiteScope and the latest release, Version 7.6, is now available.
SiteScope is described as an “agentless” system in that no remote probes are installed on target systems to gather statistics – SiteScope does the entire data gathering through interaction with a target server.
SiteScope is a big product that can provide extensive monitoring and alerts for more than 60 monitor types. For Web services SiteScope can monitor WSDL 1.2, SOAP 1.1, Simple and Complex Types based on XML Schema 2001, Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) binding (with the HTTP(s) protocol only). At present SOAP with Attachments is not supported.
SiteScope Version 7.6 including Web Services monitors is priced starting at $2,995. Evaluation product can be downloaded from Freshwater.
