Day 56
Had initial phone screen interview with Jon Sachram at Versent, which had been arranged by Grant Gordon at Intronix Solutions Group.
Jon stated up front he wasn’t very technical. He described what the position was, and asked me if I could work in that situation. However, he did ask some technical questions.
Some of them were interesting, such as: Name the history and sequence of the different versions of Windows. He asked what port numbers were used by different protocols and services. The interview lasted a little over 20 minutes. He said he was going to call Grant Gordon and I should hear something after that.
Grant left a message for me a little bit later that Versent wanted to have an on-site interview on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with their technical people.
Talked with Kelly Web at Midwest Consulting Group. The account manager for the position came back a second time about the salary for the position. Kelly and I had agreed to a salary range. Agreeing to anything beyond that would require that I have detailed information as to the cost of benefits which they can’t provide at this point. This is the second time the account manager has come back to me. Either he isn’t confident with his abilities to negotiate with the customer or the business relationship is more fragile than it would appear.
Sent Kelly an email that I am no longer interested in the position. With the price of gas going nowhere but up at this point, I have to keep that in mind for the cost of getting to and from work each day.
Sent an email to Curt Haverland at US Central where I had interviewed several weeks ago. His last email stated that they would be making their decision within a few days and an announcement would be out shortly. Hadn’t received any further communication from them which is unusual since they have been good at communicating as the process moved forward. Hadn’t received anything back from them by the end of the day.
Got a call and exchanged several emails with Jake Grinnell at Inceed, a recruiting company in Tulsa Oklahoma. He is working for a client in Kansas City that is looking to add folks to the staff with Cisco VOIP and Call Manager experience. I emailed back to him that I had Call Manager Express experience which was not viewed to be the same as Call Manager experience, depending on the customers perspective. There are differences in technologies, but there are also similarities. He will call in the morning to talk to me.
Found one position on the job boards to apply for. I got the confirmation email that I had applied and then somewhat later, I got another email that said the position had been closed out when I had applied for it. Guess I wasted my time on that one.
