Microsoft’s Hyper-V ships, competes with VMware

Microsoft today is shipping its Hyper-V hypervisor. The product is early, but it’s also late. It’s early in the sense that Microsoft promised to deliver it by August, but it’s late in the sense that it was supposed to be part of Windows Server 2008. It’s also late in the larger sense that VMware has been in this space for years.
