This one has to be the dumbest campus caper since December’s forehead-thumper about the Congressional aide who tried to hire a hacker to give himself a post-graduation grade boost.
No motive was offered, although police apparently believe this was not your garden-variety grab for personal data.
College campuses are breading grounds for such crime, of course, witness this episode involving the University of Virginia faculty – as victims, not the perp, apparently – and this one at the University of California, San Francisco.
They’re trying to do something about all of this at the University of Massachusetts, where a half-million government grant is funding research into privacy protection.
