Microsoft lost its antitrust battle in Europe although the possibility remains of filing one more appeal. The company was found guilty of trying to use its desktop might to give Windows Media Player an unfair market advantage. The EU Court of First Instance ruled that the technology giant pay a record $613 million fine, share communications code with rivals and sell a copy of Windows without Media Player.
Microsoft had no official comment on whether it would file another appeal, this time to the EU’s highest court, the European Court of Justice. It said it would refrain from commenting on filing that appeal until it studied the 248-page ruling. It has two months to appeal.
AP reports that the fine was the largest ever to be assessed by EU regulators.
