A Cisco-centric open source community

Have you poked around The Cisco-centric Open Source Community (COSI) yet? The site was among a hefty list of sources for free admin tools that Brad Reese blogged about in May.

Although the tools are free, the site, parked on Sourceforge.net, includes the latest Sourcefourge.net feature in which makers of open-source tools can offer their commercial services via the site. You can search for commercially supported open-source projects here. So if the idea of open source appeals to you, but the idea of messing with unsupported code doesn’t, this could be an option for you.

Just to give you an idea of what you will find:

ACL_maker.pl – lets you manipulate Cisco access control lists.

ACL-Parse – helps with troubleshooting access problems through Cisco PIX.

CisLog – summarizes Cisco generated syslog files.

MRTG – Multi Router Traffic Grapher – the name says it all.

Can’t list them all – the site hosts more than 50 tools, plus links to dozens more.

If you are a COSI pro, drop us a line and let us know which of these tools are your all-time favorites and why.
