VoIP Powers Long Distance Phone Cards

Now that I’m immersed in the VoIP world for my upcoming book Talk Is Cheap from O’Reilly, new information pops up everywhere. Net2phone (.com), one of the early players, more or less shrunk from the limelight to become an infrastructure player. But by leveraging the cheap cheap cost of VoIP for global long distance calls, Net2phone’s new PennyTalk calling card offers 2 cents per minute calls to many foreign countries. Check the fine print, however, because they charge 49 cents per call for a connection fee. But when many overseas calls are more than 49 cents per minute, paying 49 cents for the call and 2 cents per minute afterwards sounds pretty good.
