WinDVD 8 to the rescue

A colleague recently needed to get a screen grab from a DVD and asked for help. I thought I’d be able to use Camtasia Studio, but capturing a single frame quickly didn’t seem to be answer. Next, I was going to use PaintShop Pro’s screen grab feature by pausing on the clip that we wanted. To do so, I needed to install DVD player software on my machines (the hard drive’s been upgraded and my previous install was wiped away.) The PR folks for WinDVD had sent me a copy of version 8, so I quickly got it installed and running. When I opened it, I was pleasantly surprised by a sweet new feature: Image capture! Forget using the third-party application, WinDVD 8 did exactly what I needed and could save to multiple popular image formats. It was very helpful, to say the least.
