Here from Time magazine is one of the most glowing reviews I have ever read about anything — be it a book, movie, play, restaurant or gadget. Just a taste:
Apple’s new iPhone could do to the cell phone market what the iPod did to the portable music player market: crush it pitilessly beneath the weight of its own superiority. This is unfortunate for anybody else who makes cell phones, but it’s good news for those of us who use them.
Don’t get me wrong here. I do not own an iPod (or imitator), nor do I use my cell much and never for anything more taxing than a simple phone call … yet I’m strangely attracted to the notion of shelling out $600 for one of these babies. The gadget is clearly a technological triumph and everyone at Apple should give himself or herself a high-five.
I’m just sick of all the hype.
The run-up was too long.
The teases too contrived.
The hosannas too unrestrained.
And the bloody thing’s been out now for all of a few minutes.
