BitJazz has announced SheerVideo, a new non-destructive video codec targeting those store archival video for later use. The new codec is said to preserve the video quality while cutting in half the amount of storage needed when compared to uncompressed video. It’s implemented as a QuickTime codec and can be used with many popular video editing programs. Pricing is set at $149 for a single user license. SheerVideo is only available for the Mac OS X and Mac OS 8/9. A Windows and Linux version are expected later this year.
