Right now FireWire (IEEE 1394) is only useful for connecting a device (video camera) to a PC and transferring large amounts of data (video) quickly. But “Digital Domicile” columnist Mike Wolf writes about a new version of the protocol – 1394b – that will offer great distances and double the speed, which could lead to 1394 capabilities being emedded in the home network backbone.
