Mark your calendars, folks. Re/Code earlier today relayed that Apple plans to hold a special iPhone media event on September 9. While it remains to be seen if Apple has any tricks up its sleeve, what we can likely count on are two brand new iPhone models with larger form factors. Notably, the September 9 date was subsequently confirmed by both Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal.

Over the past few months, there has been no shortage of reports and leaked photos indicating that the next-gen iPhone will come in 4.7- and 5.5-inch flavors. For years now, the one major advantage Android handsets have had over the iPhone was a larger display. With the impending release of the iPhone 6 upon us, Samsung, which is already struggling as of late, should have a lot to worry about.

Not too long ago, we reported that Apple has already asked its suppliers to prepare for upwards of 70 million units, a marked increase from the 50-60 million units Apple initially requested ahead of the iPhone 5s and 5c launch. In other words, the next-gen iPhone promises to be a homerun.
