These glitches – I’m assuming it’s a glitch — are a lot more fun when people get pricey flights for pennies on the dollar, but this one’s a doozy nonetheless.
Holger Mueller, principal analyst and cloud guy for Constellation Research, this morning tweeted the above screen capture that would seem to indicate United Airlines wants just short of $20,000 to fly him from Las Vegas to New York to San Diego.
And I circled the best part: “Only 3 seats left at this price.”
Hey, whatever the market will bear.
So could that fare possibly be real? I cannot imagine so, but I’m a coach guy.
United tweeted to Mueller that they’re “looking into it” and the airline’s public relations department told me the same.
In the meantime, I have learned that such fares actually do exist … if you’re flying from New York to Dubai on Emirates Airline, for example, and instead of a seat you need a suite.
(Update: United responds via email: “The screen shot wasn’t from united.com, but rather from an online travel agency. The itinerary prices correctly on united.com ($2,471 first class fare).” … I would assume that’s a relief for everyone.)
