Apple last week announced a wide range of new hardware, from a new and incredibly thin iPad Air 2 to the mind-blowing 27-inch iMac with a Retina 5K display. But before Apple got to its hardware announcements, Apple’s Craig Federighi couldn’t help but to take a few jabs at iOS’s chief competition, Android.
As it stands now, iOS 8 adoption stand at about 48%. While that lags behind iOS 7’s adoption numbers from last year, the 48% figure is nonetheless very impressive given that iOS 8 has been out for about a month now. Even more so when it’s compared to the adoption figures for Android’s latest OS, KitKat.
Federighi made a point of noting that while iOS 8 adoption hit 48% after just 26 days, the number of Android devices running KitKat after 313 days still comes up short with just 25% of devices currently using the latest iteration of Android.
Fleshing things out a bit more, Federighi threw up a chart indicating that the vast majority of Android users are running Jelly Bean, an OS that was initially released over two years ago. In contrast, 94% of iOS devices are currently running a mobile OS that, at most, is about a year old.
