One of the most versatile and powerful booster batteries I've come across

The market for portable battery packs to keep your digital life going on the road has become a huge business over the last couple of years and I just got my hands on one of the more versatile and powerful products in this market: The Cyntur JumperPack mini.

This is a small (6.0” by 3.3” by 1.3”), weatherproof device that weighs just 0.9 pounds but despite its diminutive size contains a whopping 12,000 mAh lithium-ion battery, enough to jumpstart an eight-cylinder engine. Not only that but it’s powerful enough, the company claims, to jumpstart 25 engines in a row (a problem I hope to never have).

But wait! There’s more! The JumperPack mini has a USB port so you can recharge your smartphone 5 times or your tablet 1.5 times, and it can hold a full charge for up to one year. It also has a built-in 200 lumen flashlight (with strobe mode in case you need an instant disco), includes battery jumper cables, AC power adapter, and a nifty case to hold everything.

I received this bad boy a couple of days after my car battery went flat (I left a charging cable in a cigarette lighter socket and the cable’s blue LED sucked the life out of my car) and because I couldn’t find my jumper cables I had to call AAA. If I’d had the JumperPack mini it would have been a great test and a huge convenience. While I’ve used it to recharge my iPhone a couple of times (no surprise, it works fine) I’m tempted to leave that charging cable in the car just to try out jumpstarting.

The Cyntur JumperPack mini is priced at $99.99 and it gets a Gearhead rating of 5 out of 5.
