Help wanted: Java developers, software developers/engineers, mobile developers, and .Net developers are in demand
Hiring developers is the top priority for today’s IT staffing pros, according to Dice.com. The IT jobs site polled 1,200 tech-focused hiring managers and recruiters, and Java developers ranked first among 10 staffing priorities for 2012.

“Demand for tech professionals with Java know-how has grown year/year for more than two years,” said Alice Hill, managing director at Dice.com. “If your company is looking to hire this talent, don’t dawdle — a seasoned Java developer clearly has options.”
Java pros aren’t the only developers in demand, however. The next three most sought-after recruits are also tech pros who design, code, build and operate apps: Software developers/engineers, mobile developers, and .Net developers placed second, third and fourth on the Dice.com list.
(Last fall, Dice identified a shortage of developers skilled in Microsoft’s .Net platform, saying that many IT pros in the past have shied away from specializing in .Net development, out of fear of choosing too narrow a specialty and limiting future job opportunities. Now that it’s clear the Microsoft development platform is sticking around, there’s a shortage of .Net talent in every area of the U.S.)
Rounding out Dice.com’s top 10 job hiring priorities are: project managers, web developers, systems engineers/administrators, network engineers/administrators, SAP professionals, and business analysts.
As of Jan. 3, Dice lists 75,404 available tech jobs. Geographically, the New York/New Jersey region came out on top (8,349 jobs) when Dice ranked the top tech metro areas by number of open job postings. Washington, D.C./Baltimore is ranked second, with 7,424 jobs, followed by Silicon Valley with 5,026 open positions.
