Microsoft ends its "Series"
It’s not quite the nerd equivalent of a chocolate Easter Egg, but it’s welcome nonetheless.
In a single tweet today, Microsoft announced it has officially shortened the name of its redesigned, and renamed, mobile operating system.
At its February unveiling, the OS was called “Windows Phone 7 Series” an awkward mouthful that fueled a fair amount of Internet flaming, snarking, and complaining.
In a tweet today, @windowsphone revealed the change: “Tis the season for Series finales. We’ve got one too – dropping the ‘Series’ and keeping the ‘Windows Phone 7.’ Done.”
We still have to endure the awkwardness of “a Windows Phone 7 phone.” But in this case at least, shorter is better.
