WSJ speculates Hooper, Capellas may be tapped to replace disgraced Hurd
Are any Cisco executives in line to take over for disgraced HP CEO Mark Hurd? That’s what the Wall Street Journal speculates in a blog posted over the weekend.
Hurd was toppled on Friday over a sexual harassment investigation that revealed he falsified expense reports to hide a personal relationship with an HP contractor. The contractor is Jodie Fisher, a 50-year-old marketing practitioner and soft-porn-actress-turned-cougar.
Fisher had been hired by HP to host CEO conferences.
Anyway, WSJ speculates that Ned Hooper, Cisco senior vice president of corporate development and consumer group, might be in line for Hurd’s old job. WSJ notes that Hooper, responsible for Cisco’s global growth strategy through acquisitions, equity investment and emerging technology incubation, and broadening consumer opportunities, is a rising star within the company:
…potential heir apparent to Cisco CEO John Chambers. Cisco has been grooming him for the eventual top spot, but the chance to run H-P-fast becoming one of Cisco’s largest competitors-could be irresistible.
WSJ is also speculating that Mike Capellas, ex-Compaq and MCI chief who is currently running Cisco’s Acadia joint venture with EMC, may also be a candidate.
