Small OEM supplier didn't see it coming, moving to assemble alternative partners
Partners big and small need to be wary of Cisco, it seems. First, it bit the hand of resellers HP and IBM by developing its own blade servers for the data center. These companies accounted for roughly $2 billion in Cisco sales annually.
Now on a much smaller scale, Cisco is showing its backside to videoconferencing OEM supplier RADVISION by acquiring Tandberg for $3 billion. RADVISION and Cisco have had a partnership for years, and Cisco is — was — RADVISION’s largest customer.
HP and IBM had to have known for years that Cisco’s blade server was coming. But tiny RADVISION was caught off-guard by its customer’s and partner’s lust for a rival.
