Rolls out more ISV software for server blade in ProCurve switches

HP this week added a slew of applications to the server blade in its 5400 and 8200 series switches. The applications are from partners in HP’s ProCurve ONE program who are writing packages to run on the ProCurve ONE Services zl Module on those switches.

This module and its applications are designed to reduce operational costs by optimizing rack space through consolidation of HP and partner applications onto a common platform. The blade is analogous to Cisco’s AXP blade for the ISR branch router which hosts open source applications developed by Cisco and others. Only, it’s on a campus switch — not a router — so it’s intended to target Cisco’s Catalyst 4500 and 6500 systems.

New ProCurve ONE alliance partners include:

  • AeroScout, which developed a Wi-Fi based Real-time Location Solutions, which supports HP ProCurve’s wireless infrastructure to track and manage the location, condition and status of mobile assets and people;
  • Fortinet, which developed FortiGate-ONE multi-threat security software to run on the ProCurve ONE zl module and work with HP’s ProCurve Network Immunity Manager for application and network protection;
  • SonicWALL, with software that helps ensure VPN connectivity for customers between SonicWALL Unified Threat Management appliances and HP’s ProCurve Threat Management Services Module;
  • Sourcefire, which wrote an intrusion prevention system with network and user awareness on the ProCurve ONE zl module;
  • and StillSecure, which integrates its Safe Access network access control applications with HP’s ProCurve’s Identity Driven Manager.

Existing ProCurve ONE Alliance members include Avaya, F5, McAfee, Microsoft, Aastra, AirTight Networks, Ekahau, InMon, Mitel, Riverbed, .vantronix and VBrick. Other new partners include AirMagnet, AirWave and DVTel.
