Cisco Unity: Subscriber Templates

In this blog, we will cover the subscriber template configurations. Subscriber templates are only applied to subscribers when they are first added to the Cisco Unity system. After a subscriber has been created, changes to a subscriber template will not apply to any Unity subscribers that were created with the changed subscriber template. Subscriber’s features and options can be managed individually on the Unity system administrator (SA) configuration pages. The Cisco Unity Tools Depot includes the bulk edit utility that can be used to make changes across many subscribers at the same time. This blog entry will begin the long process of explaining the fields that are available via the subscriber template configurations. Most of the configuration options available from the subscriber configuration pages are also available from the subscriber template configuration pages. The subscriber template configuration page includes the following configuration pages: • Profile • Account • Passwords • Conversation • Call Transfer • Greetings • Caller Input • Messages • Distribution Lists • Message Notification • Features Let’s investigate the configuration options of the profile first. PROFILE • Name – A configured name to identify the profile configuration. New Cisco Unity subscribers • Class of service (Default Subscriber – default) • Active schedule (Weekdays – default) • Time Zones (Defaults to Windows time zone) • Message Playback Speed (Normal – default) o Increments of 10% slower from 10% slower to 50% slower o Increments of 10% faster from 10% faster to 100% faster • Conversation Sped (Normal – default) o Increments of 10% slower from 10% slower to 50% slower o Increments of 10% faster from 10% faster to 100% faster • Message Playback Volume (Medium – default) o Quieter, Medium, or Louder • Limit Directory Handler access (Not limited – default) o Limit access to (select directory handler access level) • Display name generation (First name then last name – default) o Last name then first name • Set subscriber for self-enrollment at next login (checked by default) • List in phone directory (checked by default) • Show subscriber in e-mail server address book (checked by default) New Windows and Exchange users Exchange alias generation • First letter of first name + last name (JSmith – default) • None • First name + first letter of last name (JessieS) • First name + last name (JessieSmith) The new Windows and Exchange users is deserving of a more detailed explanation. New subscriber’s configurations in Unity create an underlying Microsoft Active Directory user with an associated message store account on the Microsoft Exchange messaging system. This information does not apply to Unity subscribers that are imported from the existing Microsoft Active Directory infrastructure. This information is more prevalent to voice mail only environments. If a subscriber is deleted from Unity, only the Unity attributes are removed from the Microsoft Active Directory account. Neither the Microsoft AD nor Exchange message stores are deleted.
