The blog search site Technorati had a boatload of IT difficulties over the weekend, according to Web monitoring company Pingdom. If you’re interested in the details, they’re here.
I understand that not everyone has cause to use a blog search engine, so some of you may not be familiar with Technorati and what it does. That’s OK, but be forewarned it may cost you should you ever find yourself riding in the “Cash Cab” … like those folks on an episode aired last week.
“Cash Cab,” for the uninitiated, is a strangely addictive Discovery Channel game show that is played and videotaped inside a tricked-out New York City taxi cab. Answer questions correctly, win a few hundred bucks. Get three wrong and you not only forfeit earlier winnings, you’re put out on the curb, literally. Think Jeopardy on wheels with decidedly easier questions. It’s one of those grown-up shows that my 7-year-olds love, too, and — best part — it doesn’t contain any language or situations we’d rather not have them exposed to at this tender age (read: We don’t want to have to explain, you know, stuff.)
Anyway, last week “Cash Cab” host Ben Bailey asked his contestants a question that went something like this: “What does Technorati do?”
The passengers were stone-cold stumped.
I’m thinking: “Wow, you know you’ve really made it on the Internet when you’re a question on ‘Cash Cab.’ ” I’m also screaming at the TV: “blog search! blog search! blog search!”
This failed to impress my children, even though they know I write a blog for a living.
They won’t care at all that Technorati had IT troubles over the weekend.
