Making a movie, hanging out with the PowerShell product team, and my outlook for the next year!

Yeah, yeah… I kind of dropped off for a bit a couple weeks ago.  But, I have some really good excuses:

Excuse One:

I was cast as an extra for a movie that is being filmed in Japan…

Talk about taking an IT geek and throwing him into the world of movie making.  I basically had a very interesting experience in which I was cast as an extra.  I technically cannot say much being that I had to sign an NDA.  But, what I can say is what is known publicly and my general thoughts.  First off, the movie is called Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac and it should come out in Japan sometime next year.

Secondly, being an extra was a very interesting experience.  You get to see just how much work it takes to make a movie, but from a slight distance.  :>)  If anything, I now have more respect for people in the industry.

Excuse Two:

I met the PowerShell product team…

Yup,  I flew back to the U.S. to both work with a client and with the PowerShell product team.  By far my time at Redmond was one of the best technical sessions I have had in a long time.  Props to the PowerShell product team for taking the time to work with the group that descended upon them.  I not only got to meet a bunch of really great people, but also get down and dirty with a number of the PSH 2.0 features.  :>)

That being said… I plan on doing some more PowerShell blog posts.

What is in store for 2009?

Last but not least… my thoughts about the New Year…

That sure is a hard question to answer.  This year by far has been really crazy.  If it was now 2007, and I was thinking about what might transpire.  I would have never guessed:

  • Moving to Japan
  • Watching the economy implode
  • Seeing Barak Obama win

So, given what occurred, I would have to say that everything is up in the air and pretty much anything might happen.  After all, I have become convinced that we are currently living within a historically significant cross road.  That being said, what occurs over the next couple of years should drastically shape our future here on this blue spinning marble.

But, if I had to try and pin something down… I would have to state the following items about the IT arena:

  1. Problems with the economy should continue to hit IT companies and IT organizations pretty hard.  In many respects the purging has just started given that problems with the economy are systemic.  So until major corrections are put into place, I would suspect economic woes will only continue to get worse.
  2. As I have mentioned in the past, cloud computing is the future.  Both Google and Microsoft are drawing their lines in the sand.  The only question left is around which one will win.  Or, maybe they will both win?  If anything, I think we are starting to see the sun set on FAT operating systems.
  3. As for other stuff… lets see…

So… in case I forget, have a great year everyone!
