There are usually many methods that an instructor can use to effectively deliver a class – and also some methods an instructor simply cannot use to deliver a class. Usually the choice is rather self evident – but there are those who are so oblivious, they chose the worst method possible to teach a class.
I heard a story not so long ago about an instructor who did just this – chose the worst possible delivery method for a class. The A+ Hardware class is one I used to call show-and-tell. This was a fun class to teach – provided you had a box of computer parts to use as the “show-and-tell” material. You talk about a particular computer part – hold up several types of that part and pass them around. This was also a class where you would have a LOT of hands on exercises for the students to perform. You might see where this is going…
This instructor did not follow any of the commonly accepted class presentations for A+ Hardware. In fact, this instructor just lectured the entire class. No labs, no demos, no labs, no nothing – five days of pure lecture for a class that is usually taught in a very hands on fashion. From what was said about the class – he did an excellent job of lecturing – but that was it – just lecture. This was a disappointment for many of the students who were expecting a hands-on-class.
