Macworld Expo 2009: two movies premiere on the History of the Mac

Macworld’s Rob Griffiths has a story on seeing not one but two feature-length documentaries about the history of the Mac (and in part of Apple), drawing on the memories and experiences of a wide-range of little-known participants. The two films are “Welcome to Macintosh,” which screened Monday night, and “MacHEADS the Movie,”which screens Wednesday night. Griffiths was at the Monday screening of of “Welcome to Macintosh” and liked what he saw, especailly the movie’s focus less on the technology and more on the people who created it. “I found the interviews with the unknowns to be the real gems of ‘Welcome to Macintosh.’ From QuickTime engineer Jim Reekes (by far the funniest of the interviews) to Oscar-winning film editor Richard Halsey to Wayne Wenzlaff (the first reseller to sign on to sell the Mac), these people really helped fill out the hidden details behind the early years of the Mac and Apple.” Some sections dragged, including the one that highlighted an Apple fan who collects old Apple products: he now has 6,000 square feet of Apple-branded plastic, metal, and glass.
