What a delicious rumor. Google is building its own routers because it’s unhappy with Juniper’s products, according to a blog in SD Times. Blogger Alex Handy cites “multiple sources, including one inside Cisco”. Handy writes: “It would seem that Google is fed up with JUNOS and all the various difficulties it can present in an environment where, frankly, no one has figured out the best practices.”
Nonetheless, if true, it would not be the first time Google has attempted to go it alone in product development or network buildout, writes Network World’s Jim Duffy. Two years ago, Google was reported to be building its own 10Gigabit Ethernet switches to meet its unique requirements.
But since Cisco is cited as a source, it all sounds to me like it could be someone at Cisco making up rumors to scare its competitor ….
