Ever tried moving your blog from one platform to another? It can be a fairly painstaking process. But Google’s trying to change all that. It’s released Google Blog Converters 1.0, an open source project that lets users easily move blogs and comments from service to service.. So now, bloggers on one platform, say Google’s Blogger, can migrate fairly easily to another popular blogging platform, without a lot of extra coding or hassle.
Announced by a group within Google cleverly called the Data Liberation team, the initial release provides Python libraries and runnable scripts that convert between the export formats of Blogger, LiveJournal, MovableType and WordPress, with future support for BlogML, and tools for services that have APIs but don’t yet provide import/export. Google also says the source code includes templates for hosting the conversions on App Engine.
