Analyst Dave Greenfield is speculating that Cisco could announce a unified-communications-as-a-service product at Voicecon in March. Writing in ZDNet, Greenfield says: “The organization already has experience delivering services through WebEx Connect announced earlier in the year. And it gets you into the cloud computing, which Cisco sees as the next wave for our industry.”
He cites another analyst, E. Brent Kelly of Wainhouse Research as saying that large companies are looking to outsource both e-mail and audio/Web conferencing – Cisco’s favorite topics.
Greenfield notes that such a move could be a challenge for Cisco’s service provider partners, such as Verizon Business, which is already offering Cisco UC as a managed service.
